Is it illegal to ride a bicycle after drinking? Is riding a bicycle while drunk considered drunk driving?
At first I thought it wasn’t illegal, but after doing some research I found out that riding a bicycle while drunk is against the law; regulations state that it is prohibited to drive a bicycle or electric bike while under the influence of alcohol. According to Article 89 of the Road Traffic Safety Law of the People’s Republic of China, pedestrians, passengers, and non-motor vehicle drivers who violate the provisions of road traffic safety laws and regulations regarding road use shall be given a warning or fined between 5 and 50 yuan ; If a non-motor vehicle driver refuses to accept a fine, their non-motor vehicle may be seized.
It has a basis; what about pushing the bicycle then?
Driving after drinking is dangerous, no matter what kind of vehicle it is. I remember when I was young, once I got very drunk one night and rode a bicycle home; a scooter came from behind me, and the girl on it shouted, \"Why are you riding your bike in such a carefree manner?\" ” I don’t know what happened; after shouting at me, that girl accelerated and drove away. I wanted to chase after her to talk things through, but after all it was a motor vehicle, so I couldn’t catch up with her. The next day I thought it might have been the swaying or a sudden change in direction that scared them, otherwise they wouldn’t have said such things about me. Perhaps we should thank that girl; being scolded woke her up quite a bit, allowing her to return home safely.
This regulation does not state that riding a bicycle while drunk is illegal; it only prohibits driving while intoxicated. The subsequent penalties are based on violations of the Road Traffic Safety Law.
