I hold a degree from a lower-tier 985 university, completing my bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate there. After the autumn recruitment process, I received the four offers listed above; all of them are for research-related positions, except where otherwise specified. I prefer living in big cities and have certain requirements regarding accommodation and working conditions. In the future, I plan to settle in the city where my workplace is located, but for that I’ll have to rely on my own RV; however, I’m not in any hurry at all – I can wait for a decade or so if necessary. I’ll add some more confusing information; mainly, I don’t know where to start. First, the treatment at the four places is actually pretty similar. II. Based on the information available, I might have to rule out Shenhua’s coal-to-oil project for the time being; this is mainly because it requires working in remote areas during the first two years, and I am not very optimistic about the development of the coal-to-oil industry. III. Guodian Investment Hydrogen Energy is a new company, and its employees are likely to be young people, with only the middle and senior management being older. Focusing on hydrogen energy, the sector is showing good development prospects at present. The company is located in Changping, where rental costs are relatively lower compared to the city center. The Future Science City, where it is situated, is also one of the key development areas in Changping in recent years. I heard that the company might go public by 2025, and then it should be eligible to apply for shared ownership housing in Changping; however, whether they will be successful in getting such housing is another matter... Fourthly, there’s Sinopec Beijing Research Institute of Chemical Technology – a strong research institute in the traditional petrochemical industry, located in Chaoyang. The working environment there seems to be average. But it is said that they might move to Tongzhou in the future. In the first year, very poor-quality dormitories are provided. This one should be the one with the highest social rating among the four? I’m not aware of any further developments... It is said that companies will take care of elderly people who do not own homes, but that’s just what is said. V. Tianchen is located in Beichen District, Tianjin; the area around it seems to be an industrial park, and the working environment appears to be average. With the same starting salary, this should be the only option that allows one to buy a house and a car independently quite quickly. The future development is unknown.

If you like big cities, then Shenhua Coal-to-Oil (Ordos) and Tianchen (Tianjin) can be ruled out right away. Guodian Investment will relocate the following year**, and Sinopec’s headquarters will also move the following year**; it’s just not clear whether the Chemical Research Institute will relocate as well. So it’s likely that none of those job offers are in big cities. **Newly planned cities will surely have a bright future, but it’s unknown how many years that will be – 5 years, 10 years, or even longer... Being close to Beijing is Tianjin’s biggest flaw; it’s a city in decline with a depressed atmosphere.
In my opinion, it’s quite difficult in big cities to handle all the aspects related to an RV on one’s own. Therefore, **electric power generation is the best option; hydrogen energy may hold great potential in the future. In an industry that is growing rapidly, it’s easier to make progress and build wealth. Otherwise, one can only save for a down payment while watching housing prices rise. The benefits offered by traditional state-owned companies are modest, and no matter how talented a newcomer is, they still have to compete on the basis of seniority – it’s a frustrating situation
Tianchen Company is not located in a chemical industrial park; it has its own separate office building, not far from the city. The benefits are good. The former First Design Institute of the Ministry of Chemical Industry still has great strength. The employees recruited are mostly master’s graduates from 985 universities, with some doctors taking on R&D roles as well.
I work in the field of catalysis; my PhD researcher doesn’t work in the office building – they are at a kind of pilot plant located at No. 2 Jingtong Road, Xiaodian Town, Beichen District... If they were in the building, I wouldn’t have any concerns...
Yes, the R&D facility is located in Beichen Development Zone. . There is a subway for transportation, but the location is indeed a bit remote.
