How is the performance of a vertical reboiler without forced circulation, and what about a horizontal one?
I have studied vertical reboilers little. However, a “horizontal” setup does not necessarily require forced circulation; it can be driven by heat. If the liquid level in the tower is high enough, the weight of the liquid can generate a pressure that drives the heat upward (as a counterforce to the buoyant force due to density), thereby overcoming the resistance in the pipes ; In other words, if the difference between the liquid level in the tower and that in the reboiler is sufficient, it is not necessary to force the liquid level to rise. It is said that vertical reboilers cannot be too long, as heat transfer is somewhat poor? I’m not sure if this statement is correct

The main difference lies in the path taken by the medium being heated: in a vertical reboiler, it flows through the tube side, while in a horizontal reboiler, it flows through the shell side.
Horizontal heat exchangers do not necessarily require forced circulation; siphon-type ones do not need it either
