For refining equipment, BV and DNV software differ significantly in the classification of corrosive flow.
I am currently studying at *HTRI. . . I have never used HTFS, so I can’t comment on which one is better or worse. However, I’ve heard that the data provided by HTFS is more comprehensive than that of HTRI.
Don’t place blind faith in any software; looking at the standards is sufficient. Moreover, not everything from abroad is good, whether it’s software or standards – one needs to learn how to discern what’s good. However, it seems that in China there is a tendency to follow foreign things blindly, on a top-down basis.

French BV, Bureau Veritas – the French international inspection agency – is not VB... ORBIT-onshore from Norwegian DNV and RB.EYE from French BV are the two most widely used systems in China. DNV has partnerships with the Chinese Special Equipment Inspection Institute, as well as the Special Equipment Inspection Institutes of Jiangsu, Shanghai, Ningbo, and Guangdong; BV is mainly used by Hefei General Research Institute and its clients. Our unit has purchased both ORBIT-onshore and the domestically developed risk assessment software – the General Petrochemical Plant Engineering Risk Analysis System – created by Hefei General Research Institute based on the BV software. I just wrote an article about the RBI. The software that is widely used today was developed in accordance with the standards set by the American Petroleum Institute (API 580&581), such as ORBIT ONSHORE from DNV, RB.eye from Bureau Veritas, T-OCA from the British company TISCHUK, and RISKWISE from the Welding Institute of Great Britain. The application of RBI technology in China started relatively late, about eight years ago, but many large petrochemical companies have carried out RBI risk assessment on more than 150 units, gaining considerable experience in the process. The RBI software currently in use in China is mainly DNV’s ORBIT ONSHORE and BV’s RB.eye. BV’s software is primarily used for RBI project evaluation in collaboration with Hefei General Machinery Research Institute, while DNV works together with the China Special Equipment Inspection and Testing Center as well as various local special equipment inspection agencies. In 2003, Maoming Petrochemical commissioned the French Bureau Veritas (BV) and Hefei General Machinery Research Institute to conduct an RBI analysis of its facilities, using a semi-quantitative approach. However, with the development of computers, foreign countries have fully implemented quantitative methods using software; therefore, quantitative analysis methods remain the most widely used.
It seems that “Realben” belongs to Jiangsu Special Inspection. Jiangsu Special Inspection was among the first to acquire software and training resources, but it has remained relatively low-key; it’s not as busy working on projects as General Institute or **Special Inspection Center. However, I’ve heard that Jiangsu Special Inspection has obtained an RBI license recently, so I guess it will start working on projects soon
