Pure methanol does not cause corrosion to steel! But skin contact does have an effect!
Methanol at room temperature probably doesn’t have this property. At high temperatures, methanol still has a slight acidity, so it may cause some corrosion

Methanol has virtually no corrosive effect on steel materials; if there are no requirements for cleanliness in the manufacturing process, ordinary carbon steel (20) seamless pipes can be used; If cleanliness requirements exist in the manufacturing process, seamless stainless steel tubes (0Cr18Ni9) can be used. Prolonged skin contact with liquid methanol can cause a feeling of warmth in the affected area, mild congestion or degreasing, itching, and even dermatitis and eczema.
Methanol is usually stored in carbon steel pipes, and it is certainly harmful to the human body. If it’s crude methanol, touching it with your hands will cause itching on the skin; refined methanol is slightly less harmful, but it’s still best to avoid direct contact with it
