What is the difference between adsorption and sorption? Thank you all for your help
Absorption mainly refers to the uptake of something; there may be changes in form and properties; Sorption, on the other hand, is primarily adsorption; it takes advantage of the large surface area of substances, and the absorbed substances generally retain their original shape and properties.

Adsorption is the phenomenon of a solid or liquid surface attracting gases or solutes. It can be divided into two categories: physical adsorption and chemical adsorption. Physical adsorption occurs through the attraction between molecules, and under normal conditions the adsorption heat is low, such as in the adsorption of gases by activated carbon. The adsorbed gas can be easily desorbed from the solid surface, especially when the temperature is increased, without its original properties being altered; therefore, physical adsorption is a reversible process. Chemical adsorption occurs through attraction by forces similar to chemical bonds, and generally involves a high adsorption heat. Due to its high activation energy, it is sometimes referred to as activated adsorption. For example, nickel catalysts adsorb hydrogen. The adsorbed gas often requires very high temperatures to be desorbed, and the gas that is released has usually undergone chemical changes and no longer possesses its original properties; therefore, chemical adsorption is generally an irreversible process. The same substance may undergo physical adsorption at lower temperatures, while chemical adsorption tends to occur at higher temperatures; it is also possible for both types of adsorption to take place simultaneously, as in the case of oxygen being adsorbed by charcoal. Adsorption plays an important role in areas such as gas purification, decolorization, deodorization, dyeing, and catalysis. Sorption: When a gas comes into contact with a solid surface and the decrease in the amount of gas is due to the gas dissolving in the solid or forming a solid solution with it, this is referred to as absorption ; If the decrease in gas volume is due to the enrichment of gas molecules at the solid-gas interface as a result of their interaction with the solid surface, it is called adsorption. For porous solids with large internal surfaces, it is difficult to distinguish between absorption and adsorption; or in some systems, it is hard to determine whether it is absorption or adsorption at first, so it is often loosely referred to as adsorption.
