I. Overview of Class 5 hazardous materials: 1) 1.5.1 Class – Oxides: Oxides refer to substances that are in a high oxidation state, possess strong oxidizing properties, and are prone to decomposition, releasing oxygen and heat. Including organic substances containing peroxy groups, which may not be flammable themselves but can cause combustible materials to burn ; It can form explosive mixtures with soft, powdery combustibles, and is sensitive to heat, vibration, or friction. Oxidizing agents have a strong ability to gain electrons, meaning they possess high oxidizing properties. They can decompose rapidly when exposed to acids, bases, high temperatures, vibration, friction, impact, moisture, or in contact with flammable materials and reducing agents, posing a risk of fire and explosion. 2) Organic peroxides of category 2.5.2: Organic peroxides refer to organic substances whose molecular structure contains peroxide groups; they are flammable and explosive, highly prone to decomposition, and extremely sensitive to heat, vibration, and friction. II. International logistics transportation of Class 5 hazardous materials: For the sea transport of Class 5 hazardous materials, packaging forms such as iron drums, steel drums, cartons, woven bags, and IBC tanks are commonly used. Documents required for exporting Class 5 hazardous goods by sea: A power of attorney; there is no fixed format – it should clearly state the shipper, consignee, product name, number of items, net weight, gross weight, volume, and other relevant information. The B-class hazardous materials permit is obtained by the factory from the local inspection and quarantine authority. The English version of the MSDS should include all 16 required items; item 14 must specify the transportation details, including UN, CLASS, PG, and other relevant information. Class 5 hazardous materials require direct loading at the ship’s side, and there are not many shipping companies that can handle such materials; therefore, it is important to choose the right shipping company. Once all the reviews are passed, the shipowner will allocate a berth, allowing the process to move on to the next stage. Here, I would like to add more information regarding the procedures for handling Class 5.2 hazardous materials at the Yangshan Port in Shanghai. For ships that carry such materials and are berthed at Yangshan Port, in addition to the aforementioned documents and procedures, the delivery of the goods to the port must be carried out using shuttle boats provided by the Shanghai Port Group. These shuttle boats are essentially barges; since the Donghai Bridge leading to Yangshan Port does not allow vehicles carrying Class 5.2 hazardous materials to pass through, shuttle boats are used as an alternative.
