In a domestic MAN turbo compressor, the first-stage impeller broke. After inspection by specialized technicians, the cause was identified as follows: the rod of the flushing device located in front of the first-stage impeller created vortices in the inlet pipeline during operation of the unit, which led to damage to the first-stage impeller and consequently severe damage to the machine. It is recommended that domestic counterparts immediately remove the preceding flushing equipment and conduct flaw detection on the primary impeller. Such problems are quite common; bringing them up for discussion is to point out that the added flushing equipment is unreasonable? Are the technicians shirking responsibility? Is the quality of domestic equipment poor?

Yes, the first-stage water flushing in Mantou runs across the pipeline; as air flows through it, vortices are generated, leading to resonance and ultimately causing the failure of the first-stage working wheel. Therefore, Mantou requires that this first-stage water flushing system be removed. However, there are some devices whose flow path does not cross the pipeline, and no such cases have been observed yet.
Our company has models from Mantoux, as well as those from SIEMENS and COPPER. For water flushing, the design was provided by SHENGU; it simply extends downward for a certain distance, and no internal problems have been detected so far. Nevertheless, it is necessary to carry out more thorough inspections during maintenance.
If the original poster has photos, it will be clear. I don’t know what RIK it is, or which year it was produced It used to be Sulzer; now it’s Mantoux. The design should not change much. A break in the first-stage working wheel of the air compressor would certainly cause serious damage to the compressor – it would definitely be a major accident. There are too many of these machines in the country; could the original poster explain how this came about? It can’t be solved just by taking them apart.

We installed it 10 years ago; it was available at that time. During the 11-year pre-commissioning, the MAN installation crew had it removed. I guess the same problem.
