Why do some centrifuges and reciprocating machines need to be started under load while others can be started without load?
Centrifugal compressors must be started under no-load conditions, because of their high rotation speeds; starting them while they are under load can cause vibration in the unit, and this vibration can increase further. As for reciprocating compressors, I’m not quite sure about that, haha
The second floor is nonsense. The centrifuges in our factory start up under load. I won’t be out of breath either.
The current is very high when the equipment starts up, and it becomes even higher if it starts under load, which can easily cause the motor to overheat, get damaged, or fail to start (provided that overload protection is in place). Therefore, generally, equipment is started under no-load conditions, though there are also cases where it is started with a light load.
Generally, any compressor should be started without a load; if it is started with a load, there must be some other reason for that, otherwise it would be foolish
First, it’s necessary to understand what load-starting means and what no-load starting means. I would like to ask whether, if the system is under pressure and the unit is equipped with a check valve, starting the unit with the outlet valve fully open counts as starting under load
I think it is determined based on the configuration of the machine set and the actual production conditions. Whether under load or not, the principle is that the unit must be safe during startup with minimal power output.
Opinions are all different! I don’t know why centrifugal compressors need to be started under no-load conditions. The piston compressors used in our facility are started under no-load conditions every time; once the compressor is running stably, the load is gradually increased. I tend to agree with the view from the fourth floor: at the moment of startup, the current is very high, which can cause overload, leading to damage or a circuit breaker tripping, and thus preventing startup.
Compressors don’t have a function for starting under pressure; it’s generally not allowed. What the original poster might mean by \"under load\" is that the load valve is set to 100%, rather than being under pressure. If it is started under pressure, it’s the various possibilities mentioned above; in any case, it’s not good for either the motor or the compressor.
Ours is a centrifugal turbine with a level 13 impeller compression, model TC450, equipped with a protective gas system. Each time it is started and stopped, operation under load is required; it is a device without built-in cooling or force balance. When lubricating oil is injected into the bearings under no pressure, it cannot be discharged, resulting in excessively high bearing temperatures. I’m not sure if this explanation is correct
