These days, many people like to grow some flowers at home to beautify their living spaces and add charm to their lives. Caring for plants also brings a great deal of pleasure. As the saying goes, “When people nurture flowers, the flowers in turn nurture them.” When growing flowers at home, in addition to those with high aesthetic value, it is advisable to cultivate some edible, healthy plants as well. Today we will share several types of edible flowers that are both beautiful and delicious; it’s worth growing one of them. 1. Jasmine: Those who enjoy growing flowers are generally familiar with jasmine. It has green branches and leaves, as well as small, white flowers that are delicate in appearance. What’s more, its fragrance is wonderful – fresh and subtle. Having a potted jasmine at home means that the entire room will be filled with its scent; many people grow one during the spring and summer seasons. Jasmine flowers are edible; both the flowers and leaves can be used to make tea. Unopened flowers picked from the plant can also be stir-fried with eggs, resulting in a delicious dish with high nutritional value. It should be planted in a place with plenty of light, along with sufficient nutrients and water. 2. Osmanthus: Those who enjoy growing flowers are usually familiar with osmanthus. In southern regions, many households plant osmanthus trees in their yards. In areas such as Jiangsu and Zhejiang, osmanthus trees are sometimes used for landscaping. During the Mid-Autumn Festival, when the osmanthus flowers bloom, people enjoy the fragrance of these flowers while drinking wine under the bright moonlight, which is truly refreshing. In southern regions, it’s best to plant osmanthus directly in the ground, while in northern regions it’s recommended to use potted plants, as osmanthus isn’t very tolerant of cold weather and needs to be moved indoors during winter to survive. Osmanthus can be used to make tea, cakes, and wine, all of which are delicious and nutritious. There are many varieties of osmanthus, with the more common ones being Osmanthus fragrans, Osmanthus chinensis, Osmanthus lucidus, and Osmanthus tetraphyllus. Each of these varieties can be further divided into numerous sub-varieties. 3. Roses: Roses are very beautiful flowers that are loved by many people; many households grow a few roses in their private gardens. When they bloom, they are both beautiful and fragrant. If we have the means, we can also grow edible roses, which can not only be used for decoration but also their flowers can be used to prepare various delicious dishes such as rose cakes, rose jam, and rose tea. Consuming them in moderation can provide the body with essential nutrients and also have beauty-enhancing effects. There are many varieties of roses, and the most common edible roses include Pingyin rose, Kushui rose, Purple Branch rose, Damascus rose, Chiba rose, and so on. 4. Honeysuckle: Also known as Lonicera, honeysuckle is a perennial climbing shrub with lush branches and leaves; it grows quite rapidly. It usually blooms from March to May, with the flowers starting off white before gradually turning yellow, which is why it’s called honeysuckle. Additionally, since each flower stem bears two flowers, with two stamens sticking out side by side, resembling a pair of mandarin ducks dancing together, it is also known as the “Mandarin Duck Vine.” The flowers are extremely beautiful once they bloom. Those who have the space can plant a honeysuckle plant in their yard – not only for aesthetic purposes but also so that the flowers can be picked and eaten. Of course, those without enough space for planting can also grow it in pots. Drinking tea made from honeysuckle regularly is beneficial for health; it can effectively combat fungi and also has the effect of clearing heat and detoxifying the body. When suffering from a cold, fever, or internal heat, using honeysuckle appropriately can help the body recover quickly; it can also be used to make soups or porridges. Honeysuckle is a plant that thrives in bright light; whether grown in pots or in the ground, it is best to place it in a location with plenty of sunlight, as more exposure to light facilitates its growth.
