According to clause 3.3.11 of the new standard GB50016-2006, intermediate storage tanks for Class C liquids in factories should be located in separate rooms, and their volume shall not exceed 1 m3. I can’t understand it. In chemical plants, even a single measuring tank requires 1 m3 of space – wouldn’t that mean the factory buildings would be filled with small rooms? Please help to explain it. I believe the premise of this clause is that the intermediate tank for Class C liquids is placed in Class D and Class E buildings. If the fire resistance rating of the factory building is higher than Class C, storage is possible, though there are limits on the amount that can be stored.
I remember that in 1995, the Germans designed and built a set of equipment for us; the 5-cubic-meter intermediate tank was also located inside the factory building, which was very convenient. In my opinion, standards should be used on a recommended basis, depending on the actual circumstances
A 1-cubic-meter intermediate tank is far too small and simply cannot meet the requirements; we usually use ones with a capacity of 1.8 or 3 cubic meters, and they can pass the inspection as well

According to regulatory requirements, tanks with a volume greater than 1 cubic meter cannot be stored there (and of course, tanks of Category A or B are even less suitable for storage). The solution is to place these tanks outdoors, ensuring that there is an appropriate fire safety distance; they should not be kept inside the factory building

" Firstly, storage tanks are generally not allowed in factory buildings; those classified as Category C cannot have a capacity of less than 1 cubic meter, while those classified as Categories A and B are completely prohibited from being used for such purposes. It is worth noting that its function is to serve as a storage tank, for storage purposes. If it is a metering tank, it should certainly be possible. There are relevant regulations in the standards regarding how to determine whether it is used for storage, temporary holding, or as an intermediate storage area; the amount stored shall not exceed what can be used within one day and one night. Therefore, I believe that the metering tank can be installed inside the factory building.
Dear teachers, if Class A and Class B intermediate tanks are placed outdoors, must we only comply with Code 4.2.1? Please clarify.

The intermediate tank used in the production facility can be placed inside the factory building or outside the production equipment, depending on the process requirements; there is no need to specify a volume for it.
Fire safety regulations have changed significantly nowadays; they are not what they used to be. Therefore, it’s no longer possible to design the intermediate tanks based on subjective opinions or practical requirements. We have encountered such problems as well, but there’s nothing we can do about it. In the past, some measuring tanks were located outside the workshop, quite close to the reaction vessels, while others were placed above the reaction vessels, which made operations much more convenient. But now that’s not allowed anymore. It’s frustrating.
