Does outlet pressure/inlet pressure refer to gauge pressure or absolute pressure? For example, if the gauge pressures at the outlet and inlet are 0.8 MPa and 0.2 MPa respectively, should the compression ratio be 0.8/0.2 = 4, or (0.8+0.1)/(0.2+0.1) = 3? Compression ratio = absolute pressure at the outlet / absolute pressure at the inlet; this is how it is calculated in the principles of chemical engineering as well as in practice.

It is calculated using gauge pressure. Export pressure divided by import pressure.
