What does “Topped Methanol Purification Topped” mean here? The top methanol is first fed into the Refining Column, which operates at an overhead pressure of around 0.8 MPa(a); approximately half of the resulting methanol product is obtained as a liquid stream near the top of the column. “There are two interpretations of ‘removed methanol’: it could refer to the methanol obtained after removing the light components, or it could refer to the methanol that comes out of the top of the topping column. This depends on whether the ‘removed methanol’ originates from the bottom or the top of the topping column.
Agree with the view above; interpreting “topped methanol” as “methanol with the head removed” is quite appropriate.

In methanol distillation, “Topped” refers to the removal of light components; “Methanol Purification” denotes the process of removing light-methanol components, and it also involves the removal of heavy components. The topping column is generally referred to as a pre-column or stabilization column in China.
