For ordinary instrument operators, it is essential to master the following: 1. Restoring operation of the DCS system control station in case of a shutdown. 2. DCS system alarms and operation printing. 3. Status of the normal operation indicator for DCS system cards. :lol
1. The amount of information contained in each image should be as large as possible; 2. Minimize the switching of the operation screen during use ; 3. It is best not to make any modifications online ; 4. Redundancy of important control circuit cards ; 5. DCS is managed by a dedicated person ; 6. Develop appropriate emergency response plans and conduct necessary drills ; 7. At least two people should carry out inspection and maintenance work.
DCS systems, regardless of the manufacturer, are computer-based systems; therefore, they inevitably have bugs. It is thus necessary to keep regular backups, especially of the engineering files (i.e., the DCS system configuration, control configurations, screen configurations, trend configurations, environmental configurations, etc.), so that original files can be used for restoration in the event of a computer failure. Moreover, don’t be lazy when it comes to backups – make at least two copies. Backups are usually taken every three months; if there are significant changes in the configuration, backups should be made at any time. If the backup is done using a floppy disk as the medium, it should be checked whether the disk has been degaussed.
This is something we need to understand! We are now building a new DCS system; since everything is implemented in software, it’s intangible, but it boasts very high reliability!
The DCS system should back up the database regularly, and attempts to modify the database while it is online should be avoided as much as possible. It is important to maintain good environmental hygiene; dust should be removed from areas with high dust levels, and temperatures should be lowered in hot environments. In fact, the DCS system is quite stable! !
I. Management of technical documents All technical documents (originals) should be filed in the company’s document room or archive for easy reference in the future. It mainly includes: 1. Contracts and technical annexes ; 2. Instruction manual ; 3. Training materials ; 4. Technical documents for handover provided by the manufacturer ; 5. Debugging records, installation documents (completion documents), etc. II. Management of DCS software 1. Software supplied by all manufacturers ; 2. Backup of programming materials ; 3. Regular archiving of historical data. III. DCS hardware documentation 1. Archiving of all hardware-related information, including all hardware details and the date of manufacture (to help determine lifespan), etc ; 2. Fault symptoms, handling methods, and other maintenance-related measurements ; 3. Hardware replacement records, etc. IV. Daily Management 1. Hardware inspections, including regular checks of cabinets, UPS units, air conditioners, card indicator lights, fans, filters, etc ; 2. Software inspection, including the review of historical trend curves for key process control parameters, system alarms, and point alarms ; 3. Hygiene of the operator station ; 4. Perform regular maintenance on the computer ; V. Professional Management 1. Regular data backup ; 2. Regular analysis and evaluation of process parameters to control quality ; 3. Analysis and evaluation of the operational quality of the DCS system ; 4. Regularly inspect and upgrade the UPS and DCS to maintain their optimal condition ; 5. I would like to emphasize here that detailed records should be kept from the start of the configuration process. This includes data records, change records, and more importantly, configuration records. There’s no need to go into detail about the first two; the configuration records must be thorough. Because the system you configure may not necessarily be maintained by you in the future. To help those who take over in the future better understand the concepts behind the configuration, and to assist you in recalling your own thinking at that time, the records should include: 1. IO table 2. Variable table 3. The approach used to implement the control scheme, preferably with diagrams 4. Detailed records of each modification, especially those made after the system was put into use 5. Records of any changes to the hardware 6. Fault records, including the symptoms of the faults, the methods used to address them, and the results of those actions. Keeping good records is beneficial for both others and oneself
After the system is put into use, if the configuration needs to be changed, the steps for carrying out the operation must be clearly outlined; A detailed discussion of the operational steps is also provided; during implementation, these steps must be followed in sequence strictly, with detailed records kept ; Furthermore, records must be kept of the activation, deactivation, and reset operations of interlocks to facilitate subsequent tracking ; To change system parameters, a written notice from the process personnel is required.
The organization and collection of data for the DCS system before it is put into operation are also quite important. In particular, the various improvements and modifications made during commissioning.
