Which plant has a level gauge on its coke tower? Recently, my supervisor asked me to conduct a review; we plan to install a level gauge on the coke tower. I’m not sure which type would be suitable. I’ve heard that gamma-ray level gauges are often used in such applications – I wonder how effective they are and what precautions should be taken when using them Those who have used it, please come and share your experience.

Radar level gauges or ultrasonic level gauges can be used; avoid using guide-wave radar gauges, as these types of level gauges have guide rods or cables that can be damaged by the material

It seems that only radial level gauges can be used in coke towers: neutron level gauges or gamma level gauges, and these two technologies are highly competitive with each other. However, neutron level gauges are mostly used. Ultrasonic or guided-wave radar simply won’t work. Radar without a waveguide rod seems to not work either. Since the coke tower is controlled sequentially, coke is formed in the tower periodically; thereafter, high-pressure water is used to cut the coke, and it is then discharged. Radiation level gauges are subject to strict regulation and must be registered with the public security authorities.

We have gamma here; it’s not yet in use, but the installation and maintenance costs are high, which is a hassle
