It depends on your requirements. Generally, a large number of valves are used in tank areas; if high leakage prevention is required, pneumatic ball valves with smaller diameters are suitable, while for larger diameters, pneumatic butterfly valves can be used. If the medium is a clean liquid and the diameter is small, pneumatic angle valves may be a good choice as they offer good cost-performance ratios. Of course, when developing the control software, it is necessary to ensure that the valves are opened before the pump starts, and the pump is turned off before the valves are closed.

The main component of a gate valve is a gate plate, which should generally be in either fully open or fully closed position. Otherwise, the strong impact forces exerted by the fluid on the gate plate over time will cause wear on it, and a worn gate plate will not be able to stay fully closed. Gate valves are generally not used for regulating flow rates.

Pneumatic gate valves are simple and practical, have a low failure rate, do not involve other complex elements, and are easy to maintain. The main requirement is that they can be fully opened and closed; there are no high demands on them, and thus the amount of maintenance needed is relatively low. Most common faults originate from the air supply unit or the control box, making it easy to identify the issue when it occurs.
The valves in our existing tank farms are basically all Flowserve ball valves; there are also those from XOMOX and KTM. Butterfly valves are hardly used, except at loading stations, at boundary areas, and at the inlets and outlets of pumps.
