During signal transmission, the signal is not transmitted directly, but rather it interacts with a wave of a fixed frequency. This process is called loading, and such a wave with a fixed frequency is known as the carrier frequency.
A signal with varying amplitude or frequency applied to an electrical signal of a fixed high voltage value is also considered a carrier. Such as high-voltage power grid carriers and program-controlled telephone networks.
