The sealing surface is the most critical working surface of a valve; the quality of this surface determines the valve’s service life. Typically, the material used for the sealing surface must be resistant to corrosion, abrasion, erosion, and oxidation. They are generally divided into two main categories: (I) Soft materials 1. Rubber (including nitrile rubber, fluororubber, etc.) 2. Plastics (polytetrafluoroethylene, nylon, etc.) (II) Rigid sealing materials 1. Copper alloys (used for low-pressure valves) 2. Chromium stainless steel (used for ordinary medium and high-pressure valves) 3. Hastelloy (used for high-temperature, high-pressure valves as well as valves exposed to severe corrosion) 4. Nickel-based alloys (used in environments with corrosive substances)
