The new FDFCC plant is about to start operations soon. However, I’ve heard that the commissioning of several FDFCC plants in China has not gone smoothly; there hasn’t been a single case of successful commissioning yet. I’m not sure what the reasons are. Those who are aware of this situation please share their insights

Where was the new FDFCC facility built? Currently, both Harbin Petrochemical’s Catalytic Unit #3 and Luoyang Petrochemical’s Catalytic Unit #2 use the FDFCC process. Since these are new facilities, you can send people there to learn from them.

The process of starting up is similar in every case: feed is supplied to each lift pipe separately, the differential pressure between the two reactors is adjusted, and the temperature as well as the feed rate are controlled – so there aren’t many issues

As for getting the FDFCC unit up and running, it’s not too difficult; fluidization also isn’t a major issue – all that’s needed is for both reaction systems to become fluidized at the same time. Feed heavy oil through the lift pipe first, and once things are stable, then feed gasoline through the lift pipe. Generally, gasoline feeding is carried out after one or two days. The subsequent steps of distillation, stabilization, and operation of the units remain largely the same as in conventional FCC processes. In this case, we managed to get the unit up and running successfully in one attempt, but in practice it wasn’t entirely ideal.
