I have a project that requires the purchase of a batch of valves; Nalees ball valves have been selected for this purpose. The process medium is silicon powder and chlorosilane. The client requires that the valve core be made of 304 material, but the valve supplier says that 2Cr13 is the standard material used for manufacturing these valves, and it is difficult to use 304 material. Question: 1. What are the differences between 2Cr13 and 304? Which one has better wear and corrosion resistance? 2. Under these operating conditions, should 2Cr13 or 304 be chosen? 2Cr13 is better. It has high hardness, making it more suitable for use as a valve core. Your supplier’s design is quite reasonable.
Whether it is a 2Cr13 or 304 valve core, its sealing surface is certainly not made of the base material; rather, it has been treated with a hardened layer, through processes such as welding hard alloys or spraying tungsten carbide. When corrosion resistance is a concern, 2Cr13 should be chosen. Compared to 304, 2Cr13 is cheaper and possesses much higher strength; 304 is too soft and tends to deform more easily. Especially in cases of metal-to-metal hard sealing, the stiffness and strength of the material are key factors that affect sealing performance.
