Pumps are divided into positive-displacement pumps and dynamic pumps. The velocity types include vane types (turbine types) and jet types; the vane types include centrifugal, mixed-flow, and axial-flow types. Positive displacement types include reciprocating and rotary types, with reciprocating types further comprising diaphragm and piston types. Rotary types achieve periodic changes in the working volume by using a rotor that moves rotatably within a cylinder, such as vane pumps, screw pumps, and gear pumps.
