This Spring Festival is the first one I’m celebrating while working. I’m full of resentment; I wonder if other colleagues are in the same situation. Let’s talk about the year-end bonus first. One of my classmates works in an international trade company; he’s also been working for half a year, and his year-end bonus is several thousand dollars, while ours is an amount that can be ignored… When I go home for the Spring Festival, the first question people ask me is: How much is your salary? How much is the bonus? I couldn’t say a single word... When I was forced to speak, “Huh?” I left school after junior high to join the army; now I earn two or three thousand as well.” It can be said that those few days back there completely wiped out all my enthusiasm for work. Let me tell you about my salary history: In the first month after graduation, my actual salary was 600. During the first year, my basic salary was 1500 (pre-tax, before social security deductions), with a year-end bonus of 800. In the second year, my basic salary rose to 2500 (pre-tax, before social security deductions), and the year-end bonus was 3500. In the third year, my basic salary was still 3500 (pre-tax, before social security deductions), but the year-end bonus increased to 11000. I’m now in my fourth year. Because with the financial crisis, it’s not realistic to expect further increases. In the early stages of working on projects, someone else teaches you how to do things, and your role is limited to tasks like bringing tea and water. Only as you progress in your work can you take control of the schedule and quality; labor determines value. Work hard – this is just your first Spring Festival; for my first Spring Festival, I earned a salary of 600 yuan
In these times, it’s fortunate to be able to find a job; there are people in worse situations than you. It’s better to cherish the job you have, study hard and work diligently; then your salary will increase. What was said on the 2nd floor is correct – labor determines value. When you first start working, it’s great to have a salary, as it allows you to create some value.

I’ve been working in project management for many years, and my company has never given out an end-of-year bonus. It was originally agreed that it would be project contracting management, but once there was a surplus from the project, the management forgot their previous promises; no one remembered that the surplus from the contracting agreement should have been paid out. Our company is capable of undertaking both supervision tasks and EPC projects. Although EPC work brings considerable benefits to the company, and the effort required as well as the responsibilities involved are much greater than those in supervision work, the bonus policy established by the company is the same for both types of work. Working in state-owned enterprises can be really disheartening at times. . . . . .
