As the main instrument contractor, the following points should be taken into consideration when purchasing instruments: 1. It is necessary to clearly define the boundary between the instruments purchased for MIV and other instruments, to avoid duplicate purchases or omissions. 2. The instruments purchased for MIV must be complete, including corresponding instrument accessories, cables, and pipe fittings. 3. When making purchases, tendering should be used as much as possible; the instruments should be categorized into different groups for tendering, such as flow meters, pressure and level transmitters, temperature and pressure gauges, DCS systems, and instrument accessories. This helps to clarify the procurement objectives and facilitates subsequent maintenance work. In general, a company that operates MIVs also needs to have certain resources of quality; that is, in addition to being able to provide a certain level of DCS, it must also have a wide range of high-quality field instruments, as well as expertise in the relevant processes or proven experience in this area. Currently, some newly built large-scale petrochemical facilities, such as ethylene projects, adopt the MIV contracting model, where MIV stands for main instrumentation contractor. This approach is beneficial for the construction of large-scale projects, ensuring that they can be put into operation on schedule. For example, in million-ton-level ethylene projects, there are many downstream products, typically involving a dozen or so units that need to be brought online simultaneously. Otherwise, a single day of downtime can result in losses of over 100 million yuan. For the sake of easier management, both engineering companies and enterprises are willing to do this. However, this pattern is not fixed either; for example, the ethylene plant at Shanghai SECCO uses the MIV system, the CSPC ethylene project in the South China Sea employs the MAC system, while the ethylene projects in Fujian use the MICC system. In the new Dongshanzi ethylene plant, 10 sets of DCS systems were contracted out to one company, whereas 25,000 field instruments were contracted out to another company. For the contracted instrument manufacturers, this is a value-added service. Companies that serve as MIVs also need certain resources; in addition to being able to provide a certain level of DCS, they must have a wide range of high-quality field instruments, as well as expertise in the relevant processes or prior experience in this area. Companies like Emerson and Honeywell are doing fairly well in this area.
I wonder what the general process is? For example, their proposals differ when bidding, and there is also the question of whether the hardware can be purchased by the owner themselves or integrated by companies such as Henghe or others.
