The bearing material for the reactor shaft is aluminum bronze QAL11-4-4, while the sleeve material is stainless steel 316L. Is it necessary to machine the bearing materials using a grinding machine during processing? What kind of heat treatment should be applied to the sleeves, and what hardness level is required? The shaft bushing must be ground using a grinding machine to achieve the specified roughness; scraping and lapping may also be necessary. The material used for the shaft bushing is 316L, and I believe its corrosion-resistant properties are the main reason for choosing this material. If the load is not high, heat treatment is not required.

Personal opinion: It is not necessarily necessary to use a grinding machine for processing bearing shells; precision turning is sufficient as long as the dimensional accuracy and surface roughness requirements are met. However, scraping and lapping are necessary, because no matter how high the grinding precision is, the contact surface between the shaft and the bearing bush is quite limited; scraping and lapping are required to bring this contact surface up to the desired standard. Should the shaft sleeve be heat-treated? The material of the bushing is 316L, which is a material with excellent corrosion resistance. If the strength under feeding conditions meets the requirements, no treatment is necessary. If the strength requirement is not met, solution treatment must be carried out.
The requirements for bearing shells vary; generally, the desired surface finish can be achieved without using a grinding machine. The shaft sleeve generally does not need to be treated either.
