The much-anticipated \"wellless underground coal gasification technology\" in Ulanqab passed the evaluation successfully on January 13. The evaluation panel, composed of experts including academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, concluded that this technology, developed by NeoGasification Coal Mining, represents a significant technological breakthrough and constitutes the \"third revolution\" in coal mining technology. This move marks the fact that the Ulanqab pilot project has obtained its first \"production qualification certificate\" for the industrial production of electricity, heat, and chemical raw materials in the future. It lays a solid foundation for exploring new commercial models for coal-based clean energy as well as for applying to establish **engineering technology research centers. On January 13, an appraisal meeting for the scientific and technological achievements related to \"shaftless underground coal gasification technology\" was held in Ulanqab. The event was organized by the Science and Technology Department of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, co-organized by the Ulanqab Science and Technology Bureau, and undertaken by XinAo Coal Gasification Mining. The appraisal panel consisted of 10 experts, including Song Zhenqi, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; Shang Haitao, director of the Committee for the Development of Coal Mines and Coal Cities, and Wang Dunzeng, its secretary-general; Mao Zongqiang, a professor at Tsinghua University; Wen Hao, a researcher at the Institute of Process Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; Jiang Daopei, a professor-level engineer at the Jinan Coal Industry Design and Research Institute; Hu Yizhi, a professor-level engineer at Taiyuan Coal Gasification Company; and Wang Fengling, a researcher at the Inner Mongolia Institute of Environmental Sciences. At the test site, the expert group conducted on-site verification and highly praised the fact that the results of wellless underground coal gasification had already been applied in practical production. At 2:30 p.m. that day, the appraisal meeting officially began. The expert group conducted scientific evaluations of the relevant technologies regarding issues such as measurement and control at the test site, optimization of the purification and environmental protection systems, as well as the transformation and application of achievements in gasification coal mining technology, and ultimately formulated their assessment opinions. Academician Song Zhenqi officially announced that the wellless underground coal gasification technology in Ulanqab has successfully passed the evaluation for scientific and technological achievements! It is understood that the expert group gave the following assessment of the \"wellless underground coal gasification technology\": For the first time in China, a wellless underground coal gasification test system and production system with a gas production capacity of 150,000 cubic meters per day was established, providing a solid platform for research on this technology in China ; An entirely new underground gasification furnace structure featuring “L-shaped rear surface expansion” was innovatively developed, making the structure of the underground gasification furnace more advanced, rational, and reliable ; Creatively developed the “gasification channel penetration technology,” “gasification channel clearance technology,” and “well-less gasifier ignition technology,” which ensured the smooth construction of well-less gasifiers and resolved various technical challenges during the gasification process, thereby guaranteeing the proper operation of the gasifiers ; Burn zone detection technology was developed, identifying the main directions of expansion and the affected areas of the burn zone, which has contributed to the advancement of underground technologies in the future ; A well-less gasification process parameter monitoring and control system has been developed, enabling accurate measurement of gasification process parameters, remote transmission, data analysis, and processing. At the same time, this project offers significant cost advantages, with the gas production cost being only about 40% of that incurred in surface gasification processes, resulting in high economic benefits. The research achievements obtained through this project have filled the gaps in this technical field in China, reaching an internationally leading level, and hold great potential for widespread application. At the same time, the appraisal committee recommends accelerating the construction of oxygen generation units to increase the oxygen concentration, further improving the oxygen-enriched gasification process, expanding the applications of coal gas, and laying a foundation for industrial demonstration projects. Vice Governor of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Lian Ji, Director of the Department of Science and Technology Xu Fengjun, Mayor of Ulanqab City Li Wanzhong, and leaders from relevant departments attended the meeting. Liu Zhiang, Assistant to the Group’s Board of Directors; Ju Xilin, CEO and General Manager of Gasification Coal Mining; Qian Weiqiang, Assistant to the President of Newao Energy; Liang Jie, Chief Engineer of Gasification Coal Mining; and Deputy General Managers Liu Limei, Zhang Guibao, Liu Shuhe, among others, attended the evaluation meeting throughout its duration.
