There are two types of atmospheric distillation units: those equipped with a primary distillation tower and those equipped with a flash tower. Under what circumstances is a primary distillation tower used? What are the design requirements for a primary distillation tower?
In my opinion, a flash tower is suitable for separating two simple products; the process is simple, but it operates under negative pressure. The initial distillation tower is suitable for separating more complex substances; it has multiple trays and can operate at atmospheric pressure or under negative pressure.
