Desulfurization technologies can be applied in many scenarios, such as desulfurizing flue gas from power plants, refineries, and sulfuric acid plants, and so on. Let’s discuss what unique considerations exist regarding the use of these desulfurization technologies in different applications
Currently, wet limestone desulfurization holds an absolute dominant position, especially in power plants. Sulfuric acid plants primarily use the ammonia process, and the by-products such as anhydrous sulfuric acid, anhydrous sulfurous acid, or liquid sulfur dioxide have value for recycling.
Large power plants currently mostly use the limestone-gypsum wet flue gas desulfurization technology, as it is relatively mature and offers high desulfurization efficiency. Small and medium-sized power plants (20MW and below) mostly use dry and semi-dry desulfurization methods, which require less investment, occupy less space, and have lower operating costs compared to wet methods.
