There are scratches on the part of the reciprocating hydrogen compressor’s piston rod that comes into contact with the packing. Please help analyze what could be the causes
Whether the packing is properly installed, whether the piston is worn, whether there are any abnormalities with the packing rings or guide rings, whether the gland is loose, and whether the piston rod is chrome-plated – these are probably the things to check
How long has it been running? It’s normal if it happens over a long period of time; if it occurs in a short time, then it’s because the packing is too tight and the cylinder has sunk. Is there any lubricant available? If it’s there, it’s possible that there’s not enough oil.
Scratches on the piston rod are generally caused by friction between the stuffing box and the piston rod; the specific reasons include the following: 1. Poor alignment of the piston rod, resulting in uneven friction with the stuffing box; 2 Caused by excessive tightness of the filler, which leads to friction on the piston rod ; The chrome plating on 3 piston rods is substandard and does not meet the requirements ; The thinning of the 4 guide rings causes the piston to sink, leading to friction between the piston rod and the stuffing box ; The gaps of the crosshead and rod big-end bearings as well as the small-end bearings were not installed properly, which caused the piston to oscillate; friction on the piston rod resulted in scratches, and the cylinder piston damaged the cylinder wall ; Insufficient levelness of the 6 cylinders or inadequate ellipticity of these cylinders leads to scratches caused by friction on the piston rods, as well as issues with the cylinders’ pistons ;
