Classification of chemical pressure vessels a. Classification by purpose Pressure vessels are classified by purpose into reaction vessels (R), heat transfer vessels (H), separation vessels (S), and storage and transportation vessels (T). (1) Reaction vessel: A vessel used primarily to carry out the physical and chemical reactions of the working medium is called a reaction vessel. Such as: reactors, generators, polymerization vessels, synthesis towers, shift converters, etc. (2) Heat transfer vessel: A vessel primarily used to facilitate heat exchange of a medium is called a heat transfer vessel. Such as: heat exchangers, coolers, heaters, vulcanization tanks, etc. (3) Separation vessel: A vessel primarily used to achieve fluid pressure balance of the medium, gas purification, separation, and other such processes is called a separation vessel. Such as: separators, filters, oil collectors, buffers, scrubbers, copper scrubbers, dryers, etc. (4) Storage and transportation containers: Containers used primarily to hold raw materials in gas, liquid, or liquefied form for industrial and domestic use are known as storage and transportation containers.
