It depends on the company’s requirements. Because heat exchangers must undergo pressure testing before they can be shipped from the factory. (Except for counterfeit factories)
Heat exchangers have already undergone hydrostatic testing before leaving the factory, so there is no need to conduct testing again once they are put into operation.
I have a question: isn’t it necessary to conduct another pressure test when inspecting heat exchanger equipment to ensure its safe operation?
I saw on GB151 that pressure testing is generally required before trial operation, mainly to prevent the manufacturer from being insufficiently responsible
According to the regulations, pressure testing is required; although it has been done before leaving the factory, vibrations during transportation may cause new leaks. In practice, however, most manufacturers no longer conduct such pressure tests.
In previous projects, with ample time available, pressure testing was carried out before installation. However, recently there have also been cases where pressure testing was not carried out due to tight deadlines.
I wasn’t aware of any strict regulations in this regard, but for safety’s sake and to reduce the likelihood of problems in the future, it’s best to conduct a pressure test.
Standard SH/T3532－2005 stipulates that heat exchangers that have undergone pressure testing at the manufacturer’s facility, use proper fasteners and gaskets, have not suffered any damage or deformation during transportation, or have been protected by an air seal after the pressure testing at the manufacturer’s site with the air seal remaining intact, may be exempt from further pressure testing upon confirmation by the project owner/construction supervisor. On-site, one can only follow the suggestions of the construction party; it seems that due to the short construction period, pressure testing on site is rarely carried out.
According to the specifications, equipment manufacturers are required to conduct pressure tests, and the equipment can only leave the factory after passing these tests; therefore, there is no need to carry out additional pressure tests before putting the heat exchanger into use.
