When the ratio of isopropanol to water is low, separation takes place in a distillation column; the top of the column contains the azeotrope of these two substances. A pervaporation membrane or a vapor-permeation membrane can be used in combination with the column’s top section to break this azeotrope, thereby enabling the separation of the isopropanol-water azeotrope.
It seems that organic membranes similar to those used by SULZER can be used for dehydration, but the challenge lies in the design and manufacturing of the modules!
