I am now designing an acetic acid storage tank, 300m³, in the form of an internal floating roof (the fire hazard of acetic acid is A B), and the material is 316L. I would like to ask if this design is feasible? Is nitrogen sealing required? (The flammable flash point of glacial acetic acid is 43°C)
Nitrogen sealing needs to be added to prevent gas from escaping. The material is also made of aluminum alloy.
Because the volume of the storage tank is larger than 300m³, if aluminum alloy is used, the strength and stiffness of the storage tank are not enough. The acetic acid vapor coming out of the breathing valve cannot be discharged directly into the atmosphere. It must be captured and recycled by a water absorption tower. Pipes containing acetic acid need to be insulated, and the tank should be heated with hot water and capable of temperature control. There must be nitrogen sealing
Aluminum is not needed. 316L is enough. It needs to be insulated.
May I ask how thick a 316L plate is needed to make a diameter of about 2.5 meters and a height of 4 meters?
It can be done. The large 10000M3 acetic acid storage tank in our factory is also made of 316L. The thickness depends on the pressure.
Regarding thermal insulation, I would like to ask again, should I use an inner coil or an outer coil (I use steam for heating)?

The 300M3 acetic acid storage tank does not require an internal floating roof. The vault can be sealed with nitrogen. The material is 316L, the internal coil is heated, and the breathing valve can be directly connected to the atmosphere. If it is an internal floating roof, nitrogen sealing is not required.

The answer on Floor 11 is basically correct, but generally the outlet of the breathing valve is not directly connected to the atmosphere. Generally, the outlet air needs to be washed once, mainly for environmental reasons. :)
