I heard that there is a pipeline filter installed in the pipeline at the pump inlet. Please tell me what kind of media is needed to install this device. If it is clogged, our pump will be damaged and we will have to stop the pump. Is this good or bad?
All pump inlet pipes in our installation have filters, which have nothing to do with the medium. If they are clogged, they must be switched to the backup pump operation, and the blocked pumps must be stopped for cleaning. All pumps are two backup pumps for each other. To ask whether it is good or bad, of course it is good. On the one hand, it can prevent damage to the pump, and on the other hand, it can prevent impurities or dirty things from entering the next process.

A filter must be added before the pump. There are many types of filters. The more common ones include Y-type filters, basket filters and simple conical filters. These filters mainly filter large impurities in the liquid in order to prevent impurities from damaging the pump. If it is an ordinary centrifugal pump, impurities entering the pump body will easily block the gap of the orifice ring, causing the pump body to get stuck and wear the orifice ring. A self-flushing centrifugal pump can also easily damage the mechanical seal. If the pump is a shielded pump, if impurities enter the pump body, your graphite bearings, sleeves, and inference discs will be worn, sintered, and damaged. In severe cases, the rotor and stator shielding sleeves will be damaged. Therefore, the pipeline filter in front of the pump must be installed. If your medium is dirty, it is recommended to find the reason from the process and reduce the impurities in the medium, but regular cleaning of the filter is a must.

Generally, it is recommended to use a cylindrical filter in front of the pump, with a filtration area not less than seven times the cross-sectional area. This will last longer and ensure the inlet flow of the pump.
