What is the effect of temperature on fiberglass-reinforced plastic? Our plant uses low-pressure steam at 140 degrees to clean the air defense chimneys made of fiberglass on a regular basis; will this have any adverse effects? Please help!

As far as I know, fiberglass generally becomes brittle when exposed to working environments with temperatures above 120 degrees for an extended period of time.
Temperature has the greatest impact on the fiberglass matrix material (resin). If the matrix material of the chimney is a high-temperature resistant resin selected in accordance with standard requirements, then the impact is minimal; however, if it is not a high-temperature resistant resin, then exposure to high-temperature gases will reduce the lifespan of the chimney
Since it is to be used as a chimney, as long as you explain the conditions of use to the manufacturer before purchasing or having it custom-made, there generally won’t be any problems. This temperature is not very high for pipes designed specifically for chimneys, so it can be used with confidence.
There are many types of fiberglass resin grades, and the price of those resistant to high temperatures has risen sharply. It is reported that the price of epoxy ethylene-based fiberglass resin capable of withstanding temperatures up to 180°C is over 300,000 yuan per ton, which is quite astonishing. The key factor is what type of resin is used in your chimney, as fiberglass is quite sensitive to temperature.
FRP material is quite sensitive to temperature; even if you use a high-temperature resistant version of FRP, it will still experience aging and becoming brittle over time. Just make sure to check it during maintenance.
