What the poster is referring to is a centrifugal CO2 compressor; the two-cylinder, four-stage compression configuration is a setup that has been proven to be economical and safe through calculations and practical testing. Whether from the perspective of device requirements or operational safety and power consumption. The reason for not using two or five sections is to enable a symmetrical arrangement that provides better balance of the axial thrust.
