Some high-pressure heat exchangers (screw-locked heat exchangers) are equipped with a vent at the top; what is its specific function?
Air must be exhausted when conducting a water pressure test. During the shutdown purging, the other side must be opened for venting to prevent pressure buildup from damaging the heat exchanger.
For heat exchangers that cannot be vented or drained using taps (or interfaces), vent ports should be installed at the highest points of the tube side and shell side, and drain ports at the lowest points, with a minimum nominal diameter of 20 mm.
I agree with what was said on the 2nd floor; that’s how we designed it.
It is used for emergency handling of heat exchangers; in the event of an internal leak in the heat exchanger, the inlet and outlet valves can be closed and the bottom vent valve opened. When it is not possible to drain the fluid, the top vent plug mentioned can be opened to prevent negative pressure from building up inside and preventing proper pressure release.
In addition to the functions mentioned for each floor above, I personally believe that when the heat exchange medium contains non-condensable gases, which affect the efficiency of heat exchange, it is also necessary to remove these non-condensable gases through the vent.
Its main function is to exhaust air and prevent pressure buildup!
