How to protect the full low-temperature converter as well as the catalysts used in synthesis and alcohol hydroformylation when the coal-based fertilizer plant is shut down for 20 days? It’s just about using nitrogen to maintain temperature and pressure – are there any other precautions that need to be taken? Everything must be done perfectly! Are there any ready-made plans and precautions I can refer to?
Maintaining pressure with nitrogen is sufficient, but care must be taken to ensure that the system is under positive pressure.
For low-temperature catalysts, attention should be paid to the water vapor content in nitrogen; we generally require it to be less than 100 ppm.
First, the system is purged; it is not necessary to maintain heat preservation (the temperature can be raised again before starting up). After successful purification, the system is kept under positive pressure, and then blind flanges are installed to isolate the system from the outside world and prevent air from entering.
1. Replace the air with an inert gas (nitrogen is preferred). 2. Cool the furnace during the replacement process. 3. Maintain a slight positive pressure using nitrogen. 4. Install blind flanges in front of the inlet valve and behind the outlet valve. 5. Assign someone to monitor the furnace temperature and pressure. 6. Have some nitrogen cylinders ready to be used for pressurizing the furnace when its pressure drops
After stopping the vehicle and allowing it to cool down normally, it is sufficient to close the valves. Since the temperature of the catalyst inside the equipment is high, the pressure there is always slightly higher than that outside; as long as air does not enter and cause convection, the catalyst will not be damaged

Nitrogen protection is sufficient; maintain a slight positive pressure
The best approach is to dry the catalyst, and after drying, seal it inside the furnace. Blind plates should be installed on all the inlets and outlets of the furnace to ensure that it functions as an isolated container with no connection to the outside world; most importantly, the catalyst must be dried first before installing the blind plates. The baking time must be long enough!
1. Prepare dozens of bottles of nitrogen before parking. 2. First, cool down the transformation and synthesis process to 30–40 degrees Celsius. 3. Isolate the catalyst and the system with blind flanges. 4. Maintain a slightly positive pressure with nitrogen. 5. A dedicated person is responsible for monitoring the furnace temperature and pressure; if there is no slight positive pressure, nitrogen needs to be added to the furnace.
Our pressure release is kept below 0.03 MPa; each section of the furnace is isolated, enhanced drainage systems are in use, a slight positive pressure is maintained using nitrogen, and the oxygen content in the nitrogen is monitored in accordance with regulations

We have prepared plans: to change the method of maintaining pressure in the system, we will first carry out decarburization without rushing to release pressure; instead, we will use the gas produced during decarburization to maintain pressure (this will be done at the end of the maintenance process). If decarburization needs to be carried out later or if the gas pressure is insufficient, nitrogen will be used for protection.
