May I ask why some centrifugal pumps are equipped with cooling water and sealing water while others are not? What operating conditions were used to determine it?
This is primarily determined by the working medium of the centrifugal pump. When the medium is corrosive, contains solid particles, has high viscosity, is volatile, or tends to crystallize, a mechanical seal structure that uses external cooling water is required. If the working medium of the centrifugal pump itself can be used as its cooling medium, then a mechanical seal structure without external flushing water can be used directly

To add to what was said about the second floor: the temperature of the medium being transported is very high, and therefore devices such as the bottom pumps in distillation towers require cooling water
It’s probably because they are worried that high temperatures during operation might affect the pump.
For hot oil pumps and large multi-stage oil pumps, cooling water must be provided at the bearings, pump bases, and sealing areas, in order to remove promptly the heat generated by the rotating components and extend the service life of the bearing seals.
When the medium pumped by the pump is corrosive, flammable, volatile, high-temperature, or valuable, cooling water and sealing water are required; the specific types can be determined according to the API standards for sealing and flushing systems of relevant pumps.
Insightful. At first I thought that only hot oil pumps relied on cooling water; it turns out it also depends on the medium as well. I’ve learned something new
