There are too many subjects; trying to cover them all at once yields poor results. Learning by addressing specific problems will lead to rapid improvement and a deeper understanding. It is recommended to start with the problems you encounter in reality!

There are many specialties in chemical engineering; which one are you referring to? If you really want to study again, it’s better to choose another major; there’s nothing special about chemical engineering – they’re all majors that won’t make you rich or suffer from lack of opportunities. :lol
It’s not clear which specific aspect of basic chemical engineering knowledge the original poster wants to learn. In my opinion, one should start with basic courses such as Principles of Chemical Engineering, Physical Chemistry, Inorganic and Organic Chemistry, and Analytical Chemistry. However, after studying the above subjects, the original poster will have to expend a lot of energy!
It should start from now! As long as you start, it’s never too late!

Additionally, I believe that in practice, not all of the theoretical knowledge presented in books is useful. It’s better to learn from work experience, and to read books while having questions in mind – this approach yields better results, as it is more efficient and helps with better retention

Start with your actual work, and refer to the books only when you encounter related problems. If you’re not engaged in research, I recommend reading Principles of Chemical Engineering. It's sufficient to have an understanding of other categories, such as organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, and other fields that are more theoretical in nature.
I have the same problem as the original poster; it’s really frustrating
Physical chemistry is key;; with a good grasp of it, you can work in any industry, as long as it’s in the chemical sector~~~
I think it’s better to start with the principles of chemical engineering, as it includes both theory and aspects that are closely related to actual production.
Since you have started working, it is advisable that you apply theory to practice!
From now on, start by addressing the gaps in your knowledge through the work you are doing; once you have time, then go through the basic books on chemical engineering systematically, such as Principles of Chemical Engineering and Physical Chemistry
