An overview of dry acetylene plants in Japan: Currently, dry acetylene plants in Japan are still in operation at two companies, namely Nippon Electric Chemical Company and Nippon Korail Company. Nippon Electrochemical Corporation’s dry acetylene plant is located in Shinshiro County, Hokkaido, and it is primarily used to support the production of 70,000 tons per year of neoprene. There have been no accidents in dry acetylene plants in the past two decades. The dry-acetylene plant is equipped with three generators, with specifications of Φ2800×6000 ; The generator is equipped with 10 layers of baffles. It is reported that the production capacity of a single dry-type acetylene generator is 2500 m3/hr, with an acetylene yield of over 95%. The calcium carbide used in the dry acetylene production plant comes from the Chinese mainland, with the manufacturer purchasing it directly in particle sizes of 80 mm or less and with a gas generation capacity of over 300 l/kg ; After secondary crushing, and once it meets the production requirements, it is sent to the dry acetylene plant. The feeding system of the acetylene generator relies on nitrogen for sealing; the pressure of nitrogen sealing decreases in sequence from coarse calcium carbide, fine calcium carbide, finished calcium carbide used for feeding, to the generator itself. Therefore, the nitrogen consumption in dry acetylene production systems is relatively low. In the acetylene generator, calcium carbide is added on the side (near the top) using a screw feeder, while water is added at the top. At the bottom of the generator, calcium carbide slag is discharged using a screw conveyor; this slag is then transported to a storage bin for calcium carbide slag via a chain conveyor and a bucket elevator. Calcium carbide slag is used in cement production. The acetylene facility is very clean, with almost no dust. The cleaning device used in conjunction with dry acetylene systems employs sodium hypochlorite as the cleaning agent. It is stated that each dry-type acetylene generator needs to be stopped for cleaning every 4 months of operation. After sedimentation, the wastewater from the dust removal cooling tower is reused in the generator, and the settled sludge must be removed regularly. At present, domestic manufacturers such as Zhejiang Juhua, Jiangsu Jiangdong, Shandong Bohui, Leshan Yongxiang, and Liuzhou in Guangxi use the technology introduced from Japan by Shenzhen Guanhengtong Company.
