With the large-scale construction of continuous reformers in China, many reformer feed heat exchangers use plate-type heat exchangers. Both imported and domestically produced plate-type heat exchangers have begun to exhibit various problems. I’m not sure what the filtration precision of the reforming feed filters is for everyone else – filters that can meet the requirements of the reforming feed heat exchangers while also being cost-effective in terms of investment. A filtration precision of 60 mesh (250 microns) is generally used.
Process location: Recommended by Packinox. It is advisable to install two sets of filters in front of the plate heat exchanger; the investment is low yet the benefits are significant. One set is in use while the other serves as a backup. However, maintenance crews face difficulties during periods of fluctuations, as they have to carry out cleaning tasks continuously. Nevertheless, considering the cost of plate heat exchangers, this approach remains quite economical
Generally speaking, naphtha feedstock is relatively clean; in particular, the size of the vast majority of solid impurity particles contained in it is very small, at only 1-3 microns, so a filter placed before the pre-hydrogenation reactor is not very effective. Then why does the scaling basket get clogged easily? It is mainly caused by salt crystals, and this cannot be resolved with just a filter. If a filter must be placed in front, I recommend a filtration precision of 100% retention for particles larger than 10 microns.
For those looking for a more cost-effective option, choose a basket filter; they are very inexpensive in China. There are models that come with two barrels that can be switched between for use. If you don’t want any hassle, opt for a self-cleaning model that can be connected to DCS control systems
