When planning the piping layout, equipment placement is done first. So, when arranging the bottom pump of the pressure reduction tower, where is the appropriate location for this pump?
Is the question too general? Theoretically, as long as the process is convenient, the location is appropriate, and requirements such as pressure drop are met, any location within the pump house will do. In my experience, the bottom sludge pumps in atmospheric and vacuum distillation units are placed near the direction of transfer; for example, those used for transporting products from coking units are located near the coking area, while those used for catalytic processes are located near the catalytic area
It is generally placed before the resistance that the pump has to overcome.
There are no special requirements for the bottom pump; it simply needs to be installed in accordance with the standard requirements for pumps, regarding its placement on the ground and measures to prevent cavitation.
Note: The bottom pump of the tower requires a certain net positive suction head; that is, there must be a certain static head between the liquid level in the tower and the pump inlet. Otherwise, the pump will experience cavitation, which will affect the operational process and product quality
