The trays in our acidic water stripping tower often get covered with salt, which affects operations; they need to be cleaned every 3 to 4 months. Do any of you have any good experiences or methods to address this issue? I heard that adding a filter to the feed line is a good idea. Those who have used it could please share their experience – which type of filter is the best? Thank you.
I. The main causes of salt formation in stripping towers are: 1. Unreacted ammonium salts... 2. Metal salts such as sulfides, iron salts, and calcium salts formed as a result of corrosion caused by acidic gases acting on pipelines, valves, and trays... 3. Ammonium salts, calcium salts, iron salts, etc., combined with chloride ions present in acidic water... II. Several technical measures to prevent salt formation include: 1. Selecting corrosion-resistant materials for the acidic water system to reduce the amount of salts generated due to metal corrosion... 2. Choosing appropriate process operating conditions; being willing to invest in steam consumption to ensure thorough removal of acidic gases such as ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, and carbon dioxide... 3. Installing filters at the inlet of the acidic water pump; Y-type pump filters made of 321 or 316 stainless steel, with mesh sizes of 20–40–60 mesh being sufficient... 4. Installing additional filters at the tower inlet that can be removed and cleaned separately; these should be basket-type filters with a filtration area 2–5 times that of the pipe’s cross-sectional area, using mesh sizes of around 40 mesh, with a maximum of 80 mesh... The material used should be the same as that for the pump filters... :lol
I think it would be good to fill the tower with some steam at 1.0 Mpa for stripping, as this can resolve the problem more thoroughly.
How long can your acidic water stripping unit operate continuously, and how often do the filters need to be cleaned?
We use steam at 1.0 MPa here, and no salt deposition has occurred; is it a problem with the acidic water?
I would like to ask the original poster: Does your acidic water come from the fertilizer production facility? Are there any photos of salt deposition on the trays? Want to learn * a bit, hehe
It’s not a fertilizer plant; it’s an oil refining plant, and there is acidic water from the coking unit as well

Adding a bag filter should work; if that doesn’t work, add another one
My client has a refining unit equipped with filtration systems, which certainly proves effective; in addition, chemicals are also used, which provides significant relief!
