A few days ago, while browsing the web in a foreign-language forum, I came across a post regarding the structure of the boot in heat exchangers. I saw the original poster’s post yesterday. Today I asked some designers who specialize in pressure vessels, and they said that such a structure does exist. We use it in horizontal evaporators. The shell side contains liquid ammonia, with a pressure of about 12 kilograms and a temperature of around 31 degrees. The tube side contains water; the quality of this water is unknown, but the temperature ranges from 30 to -40 degrees. At the bottom of the shell side, there is a component that resembles a BOOT – we call it an oil pack. Its purpose is to separate the oil from the ammonia. That’s all I know. I took a quick look, but I’m not sure if this explanation is correct. Its structure is similar to that of a liquid container; the English term \"boot\" also means hopper, so I think this name is appropriate. Its function is to hold the material that has condensed, and a condensate pump should be installed below it.
Replying to the person above: I checked relevant information today, and what is mentioned on the second floor regarding the evaporator is likely an oil collector. It is used in ammonia night refrigeration systems. I think the boot should be the drain tank of the condensing heat exchanger; I share a similar view as someone upstairs. I saw this explanation in the heat exchanger design guidelines; it states that it is generally used in cases where the material contains components that are prone to freezing. Please discuss more on aspects related to this type of structure.
