The exit temperature of the cold fluid cannot exceed the inlet temperature of the hot fluid, and the exit temperature of the hot fluid cannot be lower than the inlet temperature of the cold fluid. I’m not sure if that’s what it means.
The approach temperature is the difference between the outlet temperature of the process fluid and the designed dry-bulb air temperature, with a practical minimum value of 8–14°C
