I have a question for you all: if the chromatograph isn’t grounded, could thunder during rain damage it? Thank you!
First, it should be grounded as required. Grounding is usually not intended to prevent lightning; static electricity can also affect the proper operation of instruments and even compromise safety during use.
Theoretically, yes – it means no damage, as charged chromatographic bands are after all not a good thing. Not only does the host need to be grounded, but the accompanying programs and signal components also need to be grounded. It’s best to have someone with electrical certification check it regularly.
Large instruments are equipped with dedicated grounding wires, which ensures safety for both the instruments and operators. Don’t worry about the extra effort; after setting up proper grounding, have an instrument technician measure the grounding resistance
