Operating Procedures for Centrifugal Pumps I. Pre-startup inspections 1. Check whether the anchor bolts of the pump are tightened and whether the coupling cover is properly installed. 2. Open the pump’s inlet, vent the pump, and fill it; after filling, close the vent valve. 5. Open the pressure gauge valve, but not to a large degree (open it 2–3 notches). 6. If it is a high-temperature pump, check whether the bypass valve (3/4 inch) of the outlet valve is open; if it is closed, it should be opened to preheat the pump. The preheating rate should not exceed 25°C/h, and the valve should not be opened too much to avoid causing the pump to run in reverse. The pump is ready to be started once its temperature is uniform and similar to that of the medium. 7. The pump should be turned manually during the preheating process. 8. Inspection standards: Vibration: For a rotation speed of 750 revolutions per minute to 1500 revolutions per minute, the vibration level should be ≤0.08 mm; for a rotation speed of 1500 revolutions per minute to 3000 revolutions per minute, it should be ≤0.06 mm. Temperature: For rolling bearings, the temperature should be ≤75°C; for the motor casing, it should be ≤95°C, or the increase in temperature relative to the ambient temperature should be ≤40°C. 4. Shutting down the pump: 1. Slowly close the outlet valve. 2. Stop the motor. 3. Depending on the specific circumstances, determine whether the pump is to be kept in standby or repaired; if it is to be in standby, open the bypass valve (3/4 inch) of the outlet valve to preheat the pump ; If processing is required, the corresponding processing steps will be carried out. 15 High-speed (pressure) centrifugal pump a. Normal startup procedure: Preparation before starting 1. Preparations before startup: (1) Wear appropriate personal protective equipment and prepare the necessary tools; (2) Check that the pump inlet and outlet flow conditions as well as the liquid level in the inlet tank meet the requirements for starting the pump ; (3) Open the inlet valve and slightly open the pump outlet vent valve; once oil is visible in the vent and no gas is present, close the vent valve ; (4) Check that the lubricating oil level is appropriate, that instruments such as pressure switches and pressure transmitters are functioning properly, and that the circulating water for the oil cooler is in operation ; (5) Manually start the auxiliary oil pump and observe the lubricating oil pressure ; (6) Check that the pumps, pressure gauges, coupling covers, coupling bolts, foundation bolts, valves, and pipeline flange gaskets are in good condition ; (7) Manually turn the shaft two full turns; there is no unevenness in the torque ; (8) Ensure the backflow process of the high-pressure injection pump is operational; inform the operator inside the plant to adjust the opening degree of the backflow control valve, and have the operator on site verify that the opening degree is normal ; (9) The external operation report indicates that the conditions for starting the pump on the internal side are met; the interlock on the internal side has been reset, and it can be seen on the DCS that the conditions for starting the high-pressure water injection pump are also met. 2. Normal pump shutdown procedure: 1) The operator slowly opens the return tank control valve of the pump in use, while simultaneously slowly closing the return tank control valve of the standby pump, in order to control the flow rate at the inlet of the main pump ; (2) Adjust the opening of the pump return tank control valve and the inlet flow rate as appropriate; the operator shall close the outlet valve of the pump in use, shut down the main motor, and verify that the auxiliary oil pump starts up automatically properly and that the lubrication oil pressure is within normal limits ; (3) Stop the auxiliary oil pump when the temperature of the pump gearbox in use is not greater than 40°C. c. Steps for switching to the backup pump: (1) After the backup injection pump is started and is operating normally, the operator responsible for external operations activates the pump operation procedure; meanwhile, the operator responsible for internal operations slowly opens the return tank control valve of the pump in use. Depending on the amount of water being injected, the return tank control valve of the backup pump is slowly closed, so as to maintain a constant total amount of water injected and to control the flow rates at the inlet of both the backup pump and the pump in use ; (2) Adjust the opening degree of the pump return tank control valve; set the control valve for the standby pump’s return to the tank to automatic mode, and specify the pump inlet flow rate ; (3) Outside the plant, close the outlet valve of the pump in use, stop the main motor, and verify that the auxiliary oil pump starts automatically as expected and that the lubricating oil pressure is normal ; (4) Stop the auxiliary oil pump when the temperature of the pump gearbox in use is not greater than 40°C. d. Put the lubricant high-level tank into use: (1) Open the manual valve to feed oil into the high-level tank; when the oil level reaches around 80%, close the manual valve and allow the level to adjust automatically until there is reflux. f. Switch the lubricant filter: Activate the standby filter circuit, open the low-point drain valve to remove all liquid, then close it. Slowly open the connection valve and open the high-point vent valve; once oil appears, close it. Quickly switch to the filter and close the connection valve. g. Clean the lubricant filter: Close the upstream and downstream manual valves, open the high-point vent valve and the low-point drain valve to drain all the oil, and inform the mechanic to clean the filter. h. Put the lubricant oil cooler into use: Check the circuit, open the low-point drain valve to remove all liquid, then close it. Slowly open the connection valve and open the high-point vent valve; once oil appears, close it. Quickly switch to the cooler and close the connection valve.
