I have worked in a factory for 6 years and now want to pursue a career in chemical engineering design. Where should I start learning? I don’t have any ideas yet; please, those who are experienced in design, show me a clear path forward or provide a study plan.
If you go to a design institute, they will provide you with a set of materials for learning; but if you haven’t started preparing yet, the foundation is the principles of chemical engineering. The standard references are the chemical engineering design manual, as well as the standards for pipeline installation.

They should also consult experienced professionals to learn about the regulations that are commonly used in their field of work, so as to become acquainted with them first. Secondly, experience is very important, and it encompasses many different aspects. I believe the original poster has a significant advantage in this regard – with six years of work experience in chemical plants, they must have a thorough understanding of the field. Compared to recent graduates with bachelor’s or master’s degrees, this is a valuable intangible asset, so they should be able to get up to speed quite quickly. Another important aspect is experience in design; with each project completed, one gains a lot of knowledge, and over time this leads to qualitative improvements. Really, there’s no need to rush; take your time.
Study Chemical Engineering Principles, published by Tianjin University. Then learn Reaction Engineering and Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics to gain a basic understanding, and subsequently study Chemical Engineering Design in depth.
