When a main pipe with a diameter of DN200 passes through another workshop, the space in that workshop being too limited, it is necessary to reduce the diameter of this pipe to DN100. What I would like to ask is: when calculating the cross-sectional area of the branch pipe, should this DN100 pipe be considered a branch pipe or still counted as a main pipe?

However, the DN100 pipe further back is at a higher elevation, about 5 meters higher than the DN100 pipe ahead. I think it should be considered a branch pipe. It should be included when calculating the cross-sectional area in question.

Actually, could we consider this: even if there’s enough space, would we still use a 200 tube? If so, it means that in the design concept it was intended to be used as a main pipe; the diameter changed only due to on-site conditions.

Personally, I think it isn’t that important whether it’s a main pipe or a branch pipe; as long as the flow rate required for production is met, that’s sufficient. The main change that occurs when the diameter of a pipe changes is the alteration in flow velocity. If the production process does not require a high flow velocity, then there should be no problems. It’s better to use adapter fittings for such changes rather than simply switching to a smaller diameter pipe.
