I wonder if polyvinyl chloride can be used to produce sheets and plates? If possible, what issues should be taken into consideration?
That can’t be right; CPE is generally used as a processing aid, and of course it’s not as good as PVC when used in this capacity
I know that CPE can seemingly be processed directly using a twin-screw machine; these past few days I have been experimenting with a single-screw machine (since I don’t have one). The CPE is first kneaded and then sliced before being fed into the single-screw machine. However, the temperature is very sensitive, making it difficult to extrude smooth sheets. There is another question: how can the strength of the extruded sheet be improved?
I haven’t heard of CPE being used alone; I only know that it is used in combination with PVC. I wonder what the purpose of using CPE alone is?
CPE is generally used more frequently in the cable industry when used alone, with the processing method typically being continuous vulcanization after extrusion. I don’t understand why you need to extrude smooth sheets – don’t you vulcanize them? Note that the CPE should be rubber, not plastic; it must be thermosetting rather than thermoplastic! ! Sheet production or molded vulcanization is more common. After extrusion, it is only a semi-finished product in your pre-shaped form; its surface finish is not the same as that of the final product. When using CPE to produce sheets, special attention should be paid to the dechlorination issue; calcium stearate and calcium-zinc composite stabilizers should be added, along with an increased amount of magnesium oxide. Thank you for the guidance above; I’d like to try extruding using CPE combined with EVA or PE to see how it works
What about CPE and EPDM? I think it’s worth giving a try.
